Morgan Sports Law acts for World Champion cyclist, Lizzie Armitstead, in anti-doping proceedings before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (“CAS”).

Summary

CAS 2016/O/4712 UK Anti-Doping Limited (UKAD) v. Elizabeth Mary Armitstead

On 11 July 2016, UK Anti-Doping (“UKAD”) charged Ms Armitstead with committing an Anti-Doping Rule Violation pursuant to Article 2.4 of the UKAD Anti-Doping Rules, on the basis that she had allegedly committed three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period.

Ms Armitstead challenged the Charge before the CAS. The CAS unanimously held that Ms Armitstead was not to blame for the First Whereabouts Failure and that, therefore, Ms Armitstead had not committed an anti-doping rule violation.

The decision means that Ms Armitstead is free to resume her competition schedule, starting with the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Mike Morgan, Howard Jacobs and Richard Martin acted for Lizzie Armitstead.
