Neymar Jr succeeds in reducing suspension from UEFA competition matches
Paris Saint Germain and Neymar Da Silva Santos Junior (“Neymar Jr”) have succeeded in their appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (“CAS”) in amending a decision by the UEFA Appeals Body, by which Neymar Jr was handed a three-match suspension from UEFA competition matches following a post on his Instagram account after the second leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 fixture of 6 March 2019 between Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United.
In July 2019, Paris Saint Germain and Neymar Jr initiated their appeal before the CAS, challenging the UEFA Appeals Body decision.
On 17 September 2019, the CAS partially upheld the appeal, deciding inter alia that Neymar Jr shall be suspended for two UEFA competition matches for which he would be otherwise eligible.
Paris Saint Germain and Neymar Jr were represented in the CAS proceedings by William Sternheimer (Partner) of Morgan Sports Law.
