Paul Pogba succeeds in CAS Appeal
News Anti-Doping Football Disputes

World Cup winner, Paul Pogba, has succeeded in his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (“CAS”) against a decision of Italy’s National Anti-Doping Tribunal (“TNA”).

In March 2024, Mr Pogba was handed a four-year ban by the TNA following a positive test in August 2023. Mr Pogba has always maintained that he has never knowingly or deliberately taken any banned substances.

Mr Pogba appealed the TNA’s decision to the CAS and, following a hearing in Lausanne on 30 August 2024, Mr Pogba’s period of ineligibility was reduced to 18 months, backdated to 11 September 2023.

Further, NADO Italia was also ordered to contribute towards Mr Pogba’s costs and the fine that had been imposed on Mr Pogba by the TNA has been cancelled.

Mr Pogba will be eligible to return to training and team activities from 11 January 2025, and will be permitted to participate in matches from 11 March 2025.

Mr Pogba was represented by Mike Morgan, Tom Seamer, Donna Bartley, Sam Comb and Ellen Kerr.

The operative decision can be found here.

The full reasoned decision is yet to be released and will be made available in due course.
